Stephan Froleyks was born in 1962 and studied at the Hannover Musikhochschule and at the Essen Folkwang Hochschule. Since then, he has enjoyed an international career as a composer, soloist and ensemble player, working together with Robyn Schulkowsky, Sivio Gualda, James Wood, Kroumata-Percussion, Matthias Kaul, Mike Svoboda, Barry Guy and ensemble WIREWORKS, among others.

His awards include the NRW Kunstförder Prize, the Folkwang Prize and the Akademie Schloss Solitude Scholarship.

Over the past years, he has had numerous broadcasts, recordings and festival appearances in the Americas, Asia and Europe. He increasingly devotes himself to the development of new instruments, notably the Flötenmaschine, Messertisch, Saitenwanne and Stahlklinger.

Currently, Stephan Froleyks is professor of percussion at the Münster Musikhochschule.
